The Intermediates played their championship quarter final game last Saturday against Killimor in Loughrea. Weather and pitch conditions were perfect for hurling. Abbey unlike previous championship games took an early lead and set the tone and pace of the game with points from Paul Flaherty, Danny Mullins, Eoin Blade, Shane King and Padraig O'Donnell. The defense led by the Galway Bay FM Man of the Match Brian Flaherty were strong in the the tackle and dominant in the air. Tommy Farragher carrying an injury into the game showed no ill affects with his now usual tenacious tackling. At half time the score was Abbey 0-9 to Killimor 0-8.

Within 60 seconds of the restart Abbey got the start both sides wished for, corner forward Brian O'Donnell was fouled in the square and Paul Flaherty converted the resultant penalty giving Abbey a lead of four points. Scores were hard got in this 3rd quarter with both defenses on top. Killimor were to only score twice in this second half as Abbey dominated in defense and midfield with Ronan Cooley in fine form throughout the game. Eoin Blade, Paul Flaherty and substitute Trevor Mullins tagged on points in the final quarter to give the men of Abbey a 1-13 to 0-10 win. The result saw Abbey through to the Semi-final stages and the draw which took place that evening will see Abbey against Kilnadeema/Leitrim in just under two weeks time. Fixture to be confirmed.

Team on the day was: Declan Molloy, Tommy Farragher, Thomas Blade, Stephen Ruane, David Carton, Brian Flaherty, Coleman Maher, Ronan Cooley, Gerard Ruane, Eoin Blade, Paul Flaherty, Danny Mullins, Brian O'Donnell, Padraig O'Donnell, Shane King. Subs used were Trevor Mullins and John Blade.
