Intermediates were defeated by Kilnadeema-Leitrim in their county semi-final on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-17 in Kenny Park, Athenry on Sunday the 29th of September. Both teams arrived at the semi-final stage with strong quarter final wins, Abbey defeating Killimor and Kilnadeema-Leitrim defeating Kilbeacanty, but it was Kilnadeema Leitrim who were the bookies favourites for this tie.

Abbey started well with a pointed free from sharp shooter Paul Flaherty and a fantastic goal from Brian O'Donnell after a defense splitting hand pass from Danny Mullins. Paul Flaherty traded a point with Kilnadeem-Leitrim to lead 1-2 to 2pts after 15 mins before K/L hit a purple patch in the second quarter to lead at the break 0-9 to 1-3 at the break with the final Abbey score in that half coming from young Flaherty again.

On the resumption of the second half Abbey again took it to K/L with Brian Flaherty in particular standing out for the Abbey cause. Further scores from Paul from open play and the placed ball had us trailing by  three points before Trevor Mullins received a hand pass from Brian O'Donnell and calmly slotted the ball to the back of the net. The roar from the Abbey support was electric and the teams were level with 15mins to go. Both sides traded points to the end and K/L edging this battle by the minimum to claim a place in the 2013 Intermediate Final V Cappataggle who overcame Ahascragh-Fohenagh in the second semi.
