Where & When - Our event is taking place on Sunday Sept 7th @ 12 noon in the scenic setting of Monivea Woods & Village which is 9.5km North East of Athenry and only 20 minutes past the Galway Airport.

Registering – You can register online at www.runireland.com or on the day itself. We will be located  in the lounge of the Woodside Bar. Registration desks will be open from 10:30am and race numbers can be picked from the desks. Last registrations on the morning are at 11:45am. We will also be providing an area for you to drop off your belongings ... i.e. extra clothing, car keys etc while you are running. Simply leave your belongings in the bag supplied, your name & telephone number will be put on the bag and we will leave it aside in a supervised area to keep it safe till you collect it again.

Parking – There will be plenty of signage to direct you and also stewards available on the day to direct traffic and advise of parking arrangements.

About the Race -The main 5km race event will be starting from the village at 12noon and there’s a water station half way through the woods by the Mausoleum. This is a nice flat fast paced route with a small incline towards the home stretch, just to make you work that little bit harder near the end  ;) At the finish line there will be water and fruit and inside the lounge there’ll be tea, coffee and some light bites to eat.

The 5km family walk - will set off at the same time but we ask that walkers stay to the back of the crowd at the starting line. For anyone entering the walk under the family registration, there is a family photo included in your registration price. This year we will have the photographer set up on the village green outside the playground. He will be taking the portrait photos BEFORE the race commences up till about 11:45am. He will take your name, address and telephone number so that we can send you a copy of your photo once it’s printed.

The Children’s Race – this will be taking place at 1pm on the village green. Registration for this event can be done online at www.runireland.com or on the day. You can collect your childs race number at the designated desk which is located in the lounge of the Woodside Bar. For anyone that hasn’t registered online for this race, we will be taking registrations on the day up until 12:45pm. There are 3 age categories for the childrens race. Ages 4-6, 7-9 & 10-12. The 4-6 year olds will run first, followed by the 7-9’s then the 10-12s. All participants will receive a ‘Run in the Woods, 2014’ certificate when they cross the line. The prizes are for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each age category.

*New Category* The Marvellous Mammies Sprint - This year we’ve introduced a new race category which is an 800m sprint around the village green. Imagine how impressed the children will be to see their mammies sprinting home to the finish line & if that’s not good enough well maybe the fab prizes which have been sponsored by Unislim East Galway will be enough to make you want to enter!

Our chosen Charities – This year we have chosen to charities who will each receive a percentage of our registration fees. They are 1. The Abbeyknockmoy Benevolent Fund & 2. Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

The Abbeyknockmoy Benevolent Fund was set up to provide assistance to the people in the parish of Abbeyknockmoy in the event of a bereavement. Over the years the fund has assisted many families when they needed it most.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland – This year Pat Divilly as ambassador for CF, has set out to raise awareness of the disease and also to raise vital funds to aid with care & treatment. From this stemmed the PDF4CF crew. It was Pat’s aim to bring a crew of 400 to ‘Tough Mudder’ and raise over €100,000 for CF in the process. To date there are over 470 people signed up to PDF4CF and each person is out there working away in a bid to meet the €100,000 target.  All funds raised are being split between CF Ireland and the Cystic Fibrosis Galway Hospital Project.

Prizes – We have the following race categories & prizes:

Senior Male – 1st, 2nd & 3rd

Senior Female – 1st, 2nd & 3rd

1st prize for over 40s, over 50’s & over 60’s Male & Female

Race Results – The official timing & results are being done by our race line coordinator James Lundon from Athenry AC. It’s expected that all results will be ready approx 90 mins after the race. As you can see from above, there’s  refreshments and various activities taking place on the village green which should help to pass the time between when you cross the finish line and when the prizes are being handed out.

We hope that you enjoy the event & should you have any queries in the meantime please contact us on abbeycamogieclub@gmail.com

Below is a route map for the race.

We wish to thank our prize sponsors and Galway Water for sponsoring the water and fruit again this year.
