Club Social 2016: A great night was had last Saturday 27th February in the Raheen Woods Hotel when the people of Abbeyknockmoy came out in force to celebrate the achievements of their Intermediate Hurlers. There was plenty to celebrate too with County and Connacht Intermediate titles, promotion to senior status and All - Ireland Intermediate runners up under their belt. Special guests Micheal O Muircheartaigh, double All Star recipient Brendan Bugler and An Cathaoirleach Pete Roche truly made this a night to remember.  Master of Ceremonies on the night was Abbeyknockmoy’s  Tommy Devane who ensured the night ran smoothly as only Tommy can do it. It was a great honour to have the legendary Micheal O Muircheartaigh join us on the night, and he entertained us with sporting stories of days gone by. Two standing ovations showed how much his attendance was appreciated and he obliged all who asked for a photo with the great man. We were also delighted to welcome Clare Senior Hurler and double All-Star Brendan Bugler who spoke passionately about the game and imparted words of wisdom to the players. A true gentleman who travelled from Whitegate especially for the occasion and who had to be on the pitch for 8.30 the following morning. A huge word of thanks must go to Pete Roche who attended the evening, and stayed until the small hours, at the end of a very busy week. Pete’s huge pride in his parish team’s achievements was evident from his passionate speech. Pete has been a fantastic supporter of the team, even taking time out from his busy schedule to travel to Ruislip for the All-Ireland Quarter-Final. Music on the night was provided by local band The Keanes. Great food, great music and great company made for a memorable night. A great way to finish off a wonderful and historic year for Abbeyknockmoy Hurling Club and to wish the newly appointed Senior Hurling Team the best of luck in upcoming championship. The club would like to thank all the supporters who have spurred us on all year. We look forward to your support in 2016.
