U12 – No training this week

U13/14 - No training this week. We're due to play Tuam in U-14 championship this coming Saturday in Tuam Stadium TBC.

U16's were narrowly beaten by Carnmore last week in championship.  We were without a few players due to injury and sickness but the players who took the field gave it everything. U16 championship continues again this Thursday where we are away to Sylane at 6.45pm.

All Underage players have to complete and return a membership form with €20 in order to be eligible to play as per directive from Croke Park. Queries to 086 8159309.

Senior Hurling Championship 2016: Abbeyknockmoy renewed their ever growing rivalry with Moycullen last Saturday evening in their first Senior hurling championship match in ten years in Pearse Stadium with a well-deserved 1-17 to 1-14 win to set them up nicely for the rest of the group.

Abbey played with a strong breeze in the first half with five points from Paul Flaherty and one each from Eoin Blade and Trevor Mullins putting Abbey 7-1 ahead. Both sides traded five points each over the rest of the half in an entertaining game. In face Abbey had a commanding 12-3 lead approaching half time with further points from Eoin (2), Paul Flaherty (2) and Coleman Maher. Moycullen finished much the stronger though with three points to leave it 12-6 at the break.

Six points up against a strong breeze would have had most of Abbey worried at half time and Moycullen erased this lead within eight minutes of the restart with 1-3 without reply. Moycullen’s goal came from a superbly struck penalty to really test Abbey. As we are now well used to though, Abbey responded instantly with the next four points from Caelom, Eoin, Danny and Paul Flaherty (f). Moycullen scored the next point but great interplay from Fionnán Garvey and Craig Kennedy who was just on for Brian O’Donnell resulted in a cracking finish to the net for Craig to leave the score 1-16 to 1-10. Paul Flaherty finished Abbey’s scoring for the day with a point from a free. Like the first half Moycullen finished the stronger with four points but was too little too late as Abbey held on easily enough for their first victory in senior since 2005.

So overall a very encouraging start for Abbeyknockmoy as they will play Killimordaly next weekend, a team we also played plenty of times in the past.

Abbey: Ronan Cooley, Kenny Garvey, John Culkin, Tommy Farragher, Trevor Mullins, Brian Flaherty, Padraig O’Donnell (Brian Costello), Damian Rooney, Caelom Mulry, Eoin Blade, Paul Flaherty, Danny Mullins, Brian O’ Donnell (Craig Kennedy), Coleman Maher, Fionnán Garvey

P. Flaherty 0-8 ,4f, E. Blade 0-4, C. Kennedy 1-0, C. Maher 0-2, T. Mullins 0-1, D. Mullins 0-1 , C. Mulry 0-1.

Camogie Club: Hard luck to our U-14s who lost their county semi-final to Ahascragh. Good luck to U-10s who are away to Ballygar this week. The U-12 South team take on Athenry on Tuesday evening in Athenry at 7pm and the U-12 North team are away to Cois-Farraige on Saturday. Both U-12 teams play Oranmore on the Bank holiday Monday evening in Abbey. Good luck to Galway Senior and Intermediate teams in their league finals this weekend.

Monthly meeting this Thursday at 9:30pm at the club-house.

Congrats to Darren Collins and Valerie Cunniffe on the birth of their baby girl recently.
