23rd January Club Notes

posted 29 Jan 2017, 07:24 by abbeyknockmoy gaa
Training starts at 7.30pm this week on Tuesday and 8pm Friday for Seniors, Juniors and U-21's. It's a big year for the seniors with a new management in place and hopefully we can build on the promise of last year. The team are currently in the middle of a Strength and Conditioning programme and with the league due to start in the coming weeks it is important that every player gives training real focus and attention. Number were good last week but we are hoping on an improvement these next few weeks.

Under 14 training continues on Mondays from 7 to 8pm.

There was no jackpot winner of last Monday's lotto but Joe Coffey, Roundfield matched 3 in the Crumlin Park House & Resource Centre Sponsored lotto draw. Numbers drawn were 6, 7, 25 & 30. There were no match 3's. Lucky Dip was Chris Kelly. Don't forget folks. Abbey hurling lotto is at the princely sum of €15,800 with next week's draw in McGann's Bar. You can get your tickets in any shop or pub in Abbey, Crumlin and Monivea or indeed from any club member.

Remember, the club runs a very handy direct debit facility where your €2.00 per week is automatically entered for 52 weeks. There are two weeks free with this facility.

The club lotto is our bread and butter of fundraising and is used for the day to day running of the club with basics such as utilities, hurls, sliotars, gear and pitch development all helped by this.

There have been one or two close calls lately in the draws so don't miss out on this opportunity.

By adding your name to the draw every week you're helping out a progressive club with many exciting projects in the pipeline for the year.

With a senior, junior, U-21 and many underage teams we encourage all parents and supporters to buy one or two tickets per week to help the club run as smoothly as possible over the year.

As always, we appreciate everyone helping us out and by doing so everyone in the club and parish benefits from having a successful and well supported club.

With club activities back in full swing for the coming season it is important you renew your membership for the coming year. We believe Abbeyknockmoy membership will replace beards and skinny jeans as the hipster event for 2017 so get in quick.

Membership fees are as follows:
Adult Player €50.
Non-playing/Social Adult €20.
Student Membership €30.
Family Membership (All children under 18 years of age) €100.. Juvenile Players €20 each.

Those in the monthly draw (€240 per year, €20 per month) are automatic members along with one other adult and all children under 18. Sure where else would you get it!!!!

All players and new members wishing to participate during the 2017 season playing hurling, and camogie and also using the astro and dressing rooms must be registered with the club and have paid their fees in full. This will ensure that we meet all our legal obligations as a club for insurance purposes which will benefit both members and the club. Any player not registered cannot partake in any club activities.

This is a particular issue if a player plays while not a member. You are not covered with insurance in the event of an injury so it is imperative that all managers and coaches make sure that all their payers are registered.

The days of players in any code or age group playing without insurance cover are all but over and the club wants to protects its players as best as possible in the unfortunate event of an injury.

We ask all parents to make sure that their children are paid up. As with every year, membership covers club affiliation to the hurling board so please pay your membership as soon as possible.

Don't forget to get your ticket in the GAA National Club Draw. Tickets cost €10 with all money going to Abbeyknockmoy Hurling. First prize is an Opel Corsa. Other prizes include All Star trips, All Ireland premium and corporate packages etc. Well worth supporting this. Get tickets from any club officer. We can sell up to a maximum of 2000 tickets which would earn the club €20000.

All the funds raised in these tickets is kept by the club to invest in the Underage and Senior coaching for the year ahead.

Last year the club used this money to pay team affiliation to Croke Park, pitch development, kits, equipment and trips away. This is an easy way to support the club that trains and develops young and old alike in the parish.

You can take a book of five tickets to sell yourself and ALL of the money is kept by the club.

Draw is held 8th March and more details can be seen at www.gaa.ie/news/national-club-draw/

We are planning a charity cycle from Croke Park, Jones Rd to Abbey this Aug 2017. Idea is to get 12 team captains with 4 per team and each cyclist is required to do 50km only.Any queries please call Declan on 086 8159309. #croker2abbey. There was a good meeting about this last week. We are just finalising what charity we will help out along with the dates we can use in August.

We ask anyone with any interest in cycling to do this charity fundraising event. Each team member only has to cycle 50km so with a few weeks training before the event everyone will be well able for it.

Various speeds will be set during the cycle and people will not be left behind as we will all enter Abbeyknockmoy together. This has the makings of an exciting venture for the coming months and we hope as many people get involved as possible.

Monthly draw payments of €240 can now be made to Brian Flaherty. First prize is always €700 along with three prizes of €100. This Months draw takes place in McGann's Bar after the Lotto draw.
