Hurling: U8s won their 1st match of the year against Ahascragh/Fohenagh on the Bank Holiday Monday. Next game is v's Ballinasloe in Abbey on Sunday at 12:30. Thanks to all the parents who travelled
U10s also played Ahascragh/Fohenagh on the Bank Holiday in Fohenagh in the East Galway league and they had another good win. Thanks to all parents who travelled and carried kids. It's important that all players attend training and not just turn up for the matches. We play Ballygar again this Thursday @ 7pm away in Ballygar. Meeting at the pitch in Abbey at 6pm.
U14s had a win last week against over Kiltormer winning 6 pts to 1-1 and then Monday afternoon they secured their place in the semi-finals with a win over Mullagh at home in Abbey. Final score 1-10 to 2-3. Well done to the team & management. Semi-finals are to be set for next weekend. Training as usual at 6:30pm.
The Intermediates played their 1st round championship match in Ballinasloe on Bank Holiday Monday v's Cappataggle but were defeated, final score Cappataggle 1-17 Abbey 1-9. This was an unfortunate result as the scoreline could have been much different had we not put so many balls wide, as this was a fairly even game with the ball being in play on both sides equally. Cappa opened the game almost straight away with a point but Abbey came back with a point by Padraig O'Donnell. Another point from Cappa was again equalized by Padraig O'Donnell. However, the next three points scored by Cappa were not equalized as Abbey put the next 3 balls wide. Cappa made 3 more attempts of which 2 went over the bar. One of the frees taken by goalie James Skehill failed to produce a score. A free in gave us another point which was taken by Padraig O'Donnell.
The 1st Cappa attempt at goal was saved by Declan Molloy.  Twice Brian Flaherty got in and intercepted the ball from a Cappa sideline cut but unfortunately these were wide. Cappa went on to score 2 more points before half time leaving the half time score 0-9 to 0-3.
In the 2nd half Padraig O'Donnell put the ball over the bar from a free. Shortly after the next free in fell short and during the scuffle Abbey were fouled and a penalty awarded. Paul Flaherty took the shot and put the ball into the corner of the net getting Abbeys 1st goal. This was short lived however as Cappa retaliated with a goal moments later. Brian Flaherty got his first point on the board but this was followed up with Cappa scoring 4 points, followed by another point from Brian Flaherty. The Abbey side put two balls wide before Brian Flaherty scored another point. During which time Cappa successfully got another 3 points.
Two more attempts at goal were made by Paul Flaherty but these were blocked by the Cappa defense line. In the last minutes a point was scored by Dave Carton, Cappa put a ball wide and another point followed by Brian Flaherty.
Team on the day was Declan Molloy, Tommy Farragher, Tom Blade, Michael Gannon, Paddy Flaherty, Stephen Ruane, Dave Carton (0-1), Ronan Cooley, Coleman Maher, Ger Ruane, Padraig O'Donnell (0-4) Eoin Blade, Paul Flaherty (1-0), Brian Flaherty (0-4) & Danny Mullins. Subs used were: Shane King & Paul Cooley. The lads will now face Killimor but match details have yet to be confirmed.

Camogie: Under age training this Wednesday at 7pm. The U12s are playing at home in Abbey on Wed eve at 7pm. U14s are playing a challenge match against Kinvara on Friday eve and the Minor team are playing Wed eve in Abbey at 8pm.
The Junior B team were to play v's St. Thomas in a semi-final play off over the weekend but St. Thomas could field so Abbey are now through to the semi-final V's Castlegar, which is on this coming weekend but fixture not yet confirmed. Good luck to the ladies.
