General: The Hurling & Camogie Club would like to thank all who attended the Tea Party Club Social. There was a great turnout on the night, no shortage of food and overall a great night was had by all. After the meal a brief speech was given Brian Griffin, the Hurling Club chairman. He announced details of the upcoming 'Who wants to be a Thousandaire' event which is taking place in March, and this was followed by the members draw. It's fair to say though that one of the highlights of the night was the media clip shown to all the guests. There were scenes from the match itself, interviews with the then Abbeyknockmoy manager and the Athenry manager whom Abbey were victorious against. This short movie is literally just a taster of whats to come as a full documentary is being made as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations for the team of '88 who won the County Final. More details will be announced nearer the time. The final formalities of the night came as a cheque for €1,200 was presented to CONSOLE, the suicide awareness charity. These funds were raised from the 'Run in the Woods, 2012' back in September. Margaret Tierney from CONSOLE and Pete Roche were there to receive the cheque and Margaret thanked all at Abbeyknockmoy Hurling & Camogie for their fantastic efforts, she spoke about the services and facilities they provide and indeed how important fundraising is to them in order to continue to provide this invaluable service.
Congrats to Brian Costello and his St. Gabriels team mates on their win at the weekend.
Congratulations to Paul Divilly, Confey, Co. Kildare who has been named captain of Kildare senior hurling team. Paul's parents Mike and Bridie (nee Coleman) hail from Monivea and Crumlin respectively. Best of luck to him and his brothers Kieran and Michael who play for the county team.
As mentioned above already, we are holding 'Who wants to be a Thousandaire' on March 15th. In the run up to this there is a 'launch night' on February 8th in the Abbey Inn at 8pm. Entry to the 'launch night' is free and all are invited to attend. There are still some advertising slots available so if anyone would like to place an advert for the night you can contact us on abbeyknockmoyhurling@gmail.com or contact the PRO on 085-7074747.
Sympathies to the Finnerty & Forde families on the death of Jimmy Forde, Glenaveil.
