The finals of the first Kay Williams U-12 Memorial tournament took place last Saturday evening in Abbey with Ahascragh/Fohenagh defeating Tuam in the shield final and Skehana narrowly defeating Abbey in the Cup final. Abbey had the better of the exchanges during the match but failed to take advantage and were caught in the closing minutes by a goal to lose out by two points. Overall the competition played over two weeks was a great success and a fitting tribute the Kay who was a tremendous servant to Abbey hurling club. Special thanks to Shane King & Gerry Giles who officiated at the games, to all the parents who helped out on the day in providing food and catering, Michael Tarpey in the organizing of the event and to Mattie Ryan for his kind sponsorship. This is now an annual event set in the club calendar and we hope next year our boys can win back the trophy
