22nd August 2012 Club Notes

Lotto: Numbers drawn 11, 20, 22, 28. There was no jackpot winner so next weeks jackpot is €11,500 & the draw will be in Ryans Bar. There was only 1 match 3 winner, Darren Finn who will receive €40.

Hurling: Under age training continues as usual this Sunday at 12:30pm. Our under age hurlers CATS tournament came to a close with finals day hosted by Turloughmore last Saturday. CATS comprises of Carnmore, Abbey, Turloughmore & Sylane playing round robin of matches with the top 2 playing in the Cup Final and remaining 2 teams in the Shield Final. U10's were in the Shield Final V's Sylane, U8's were in the Cup Final V's hosts and our U6's also played a friendly game. We were up against huge numbers from the other teams in particular Turloughmore & Carnmore. Our U6's consisted of both boys & girls, they had a great run out and were delighted to get a club jersey and faced up against Carnmore. Our U8's were made wait for the Cup Final V's a highly fancied Turloughmore team. But to their credit each player put in spirited performances and pushed Turloughmore all the way. We had plenty of chances but just couldn't transfer our efforts onto the scoreboard and ended up narrowly losing out. Our U10's contested the Sheild Final V's Sylane. They battled hard but again found scores hard to come by and with Sylane finding the net a few times in the 1st half it was going to be a struggle but to their credit they never gave in and were competitive all the way through but Sylane ran out victorious. On behalf of the club we'd like to sincerely thank all the parents who travelled to the CATS games all year with their kids and especially last Saturday to Turloughmore where it was a very long and testing day out. Well done to all our kids who participated. Also, special thanks to all managers, selectors and everyone who helped out with the teams all year. The next leg of the Kay Williams tournament is on Wednesday eve in Tuam Stadium at 6pm. Players are asked to be there by 5:30pm. The Finals of the Kay Williams tournament will be played on Saturday 25th in Abbey. There will be a Cup & Shield Final with the first game getting started at 4pm. Please come along to support. The U16's had a good win over Skehana and are now through to the semi-finals which are fixed for the weekend of the 8th/9th/10th Sept, dates to be confirmed. Junior training continues Wednesday at 8pm. We are fixed to play Spiddal on Friday evening in our final group Championship game in Castlegar at 8pm.

Camogie: Under age training continues Wed from 7-8pm at the pitch in Abbey. The North Board league continues this Wed eve in Abbey against Moylough/Mountbellew, with the Under 10's playing at 6:30pm and the U14's playing 7:15pm. The Junior B team had their last match of the season last week against Sarsfields. Nerves were running at an all time high in anticipation of the game as we knew we'd be up against it. However, it was a true testament to the hard work put in by the Abbey side as yet again they went out as the underdog and fought for every ball resulting in a final score line of Abbey 4-3 to Sarsfields 2-12. The team on the day was Caroline Rabbitte, Louise Tracey, Michelle Moran, Leanne Flaherty, Linda O'Brien, Lorraine Flaherty, Lesley Carey, Patricia Flaherty, Theresa Keary, Aoife McKeogh, Geraldine McCormack, Amy Flaherty, Denise Lally, Sharon Gannon, Marion Ruane, Sabrina Moran & Michelle Joyce.
