13th June 2012 Club Notes

Lotto: Numbers drawn 1, 4, 5 and 10. There was no jackpot winner so next weeks jackpot is €10,500. Congrats to the 3 match 3 winners Sean O'Connor, Margaret Newman & Declan Ruane who each receive €40. Next weeks draw is in Ryans Bar.

Hurling: Under age training continues Sunday morning at 12:30 - 1:30pm at the pitch in Abbey.

The Intermediates produced a good performance in the championship on Saturday, Abbeyknockmoy 1-13 to Oranmore 0-16. Abbey trailed 9pts to 6pts at half-time. First half scorers were P.Macmaighnuis 0-1, J. Culkin 0-1, B. Flaherty 0-2, Paul Flaherty 0-2. Oranmore crept further ahead but to Abbey's credit they pegged Oranmore back with points from Paul Flaherty 0-4, J. Culkin 0-1, P O Donnell 0-1, B. Flaherty 0-1, before Brian Flaherty pounced on a loose ball and rattled the Oranmore net with 2 mins remaining but Oranmore responded with a point to leave it all square at full -time. It was probably a fair result in the end and Abbey now need to beat Ahascragh to advance to the knock out stages. Team; D.Molloy, D.Carton, S.Ruane, J.Blade, P.Flaherty, J.Culkin, G.Ruane, P.O.Donnell, R.Cooley (c), Paul.Flaherty, O.Finn, B.Flaherty, D.Collins, B.O.Donnell, P.MacMaighnuis. Subs. S.King for P.MacMaighnuis, C.Blade for O.Finn, C.Maher for G.Ruane.

The Junior team play Rahoon/Newcastle in a league game Wednesday eve at 7:30pm in Tonabrucky.

Camogie: Under age training continues Wed from 7-8pm at the pitch in Abbey. Under 12 & 14's extra training on Friday from 7-9pm in Monivea. Junior B's are playing a challenge match this eve (Wed) in Moylough at 8pm. We'd like to say thank you to Orla & Niamh Kilkenny who paid a visit last week and very kindly gave their time in holding a training session for the 10's/12's/14's not to mention being bombarded for autographs afterwards, and also to Geraldine McGrath (County Board Chairperson) and Sean Geraghty (County Board Treasurer) who kindly brought along some treats much to the delight of our under age players. Their support to date has been fantastic and we look forward to welcoming them to Abbeyknockmoy again in the future.

This Sunday will be the last chance to place orders for club gear. Due to the success of our last 'Car Wash' we are holding it again this Wednesday from 6pm and Sunday morning at 12. Your support would be appreciated. Best of luck to Brian Flaherty & the Galway Senior Hurlers in action in the Leinster semi-final v Offaly on Sunday in Portlaoise and to the Monivea-Abbey intermediate footballers in championship action this weekend v Dunmore MacHales. Congratulations to Brian Costello & London hurlers after they won the Christy Ring cup last weekend. Brian played a starring role for London at fullback. This is his second All-Ireland medal in as many years playing with London. Best wishes to all those who are sitting exams over the next couple of weeks.
