There was no jackpot winner in this week's Lotto. Congratulations to Caroline Crehan and Kay Garvey, both of Abbert on being this weeks match three winners. The numbers drawn were 9, 15, 21 and 25. Next week's draw takes place in McGann's, jackpot €4,800. Supporters are encouraged to avail Direct Debit as a convenient means of playing the club's Lotto on a weekly basis; the direct debit mandate can be downloaded from the club website.

Intermediates had their 1st championship outing where they played Ahascragh-Fohenagh with the game ending in a draw on a final score 1-12 a piece. This was an important match for both teams as the group has only 4 teams due to Wolfe Tones withdrawing from the championship and three teams to qualify from the group. The game commenced with abbey playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the 1st half, in a very competitive encounter, Abbey held the upper hand with good points taken by Paul & Brian Flaherty, Colman Maher, Brian & Padraig O'Donnell but were compounded by some wayward shooting with Ahascragh /Fohenagh scoring a well worked goal to keep the scoreline tight at half-time at 0-8 to 1-4. Abbey with a one point advantage faced in to the stiff breeze in the 2nd half and upped their performance considerably with some excellent defending. A well taken goal 10 minutes in by Eoin Flaherty gave a much needed boost with further points by P. O'Donnell, P. MacMaighnis, P. Flaherty & R. Cooley maintained the lead until the last 2 minutes where Ahascragh were awarded a free to level the scores. Abbey may be disappointed with the result particularly with the wides in the 1st half, overall the 2nd half display was very encouraging with some very good passages of hurling by the team overall particularly by the defense with Brian Flaherty leading the foray at No. 6 where K. Flaherty had to be replaced through injury. For the record the team was Declan Molloy, Stephen Ruane, Tommy Farragher, Danny Mullins, John Blade, Kieran Flaherty (Padraig MacMaighnuis (0-1)), Ger Ruane, Padraig O'Donnell (0-2), Ronan Cooley (0-1), Paul Flaherty(0-2), Brian Flaherty (0-3), Brian O'Donnell (0-1), Darren Collins (Eoin Flaherty (1-0)), Brian Cooley, Colman Maher (0-2). Eoin Flaherty was replaced by Eoin Blade & K Flaherty by P MacMaighnuis through injury.

Juniors are fixed to Beagh in Abbey next Wednesday, throw in for 7.15pm. Minor & U-16 training continues Thursday at 7.30pm. U-16's defeated Athleague (Roscommon) in the Suck Valley League last Sunday morning. U-14's defeated Bearna Furbo 5-9 to 3-5 in championship last Monday. Training continues Thursday at 6.30pm in Abbey, all players are to bring birth certs. Again well done to all involved. Next championship group game is against Ballindereen, game is scheduled for the 16th of May at 6.30pm in Ballindereen. We are joint second with Padraig Pearses on four points with Cappataggle topping the group with seven points each team having four games played.

U-10's played Padraig Pearses in the East Galway Go-Games last Friday. U-8's enjoyed three great hurling encounters last Friday evening in Abbey against Tuam, Turloughmore and Killimordaly. We had over 30 young players involved in all the games, well done to all involved. There is a break this week for the Go-Games competition. Sarsfields visit our club grounds on the 22nd of this month (Sunday week), there will be games for the U-6's, U-8's and U-10's on the day.
