Intermediates bowed out of the championship at the hands of Kilconieran last Saturday evening in Athenry. In a game where Abbey believed they had a good chance of progressing to the semi-final stage, however they never really got into their stride. In what was a good evening for hurling, Kilconerion started the livelier and had 4 points on the board before Abbey responded with 2 points after 10 minutes. The game continued in this mode in fits and starts with both teams never really igniting with the referee being the most prominent. By half time Abbeyknockmoy trailed by 5 points but were still well in the game. On the resumption, Abbey upped there performance and after ten minutes had reduced the deficit to 2 point game, however Kilconerion got to grips with the game and traded points until the last ten minutes when Kilconerion got the decisive score when they were awarded a 21 yard free which they duly converted and gave them a six point lead. The Abbey challenge petered out as Kilconerion to win on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-17. In what was an overall sporting game by both teams with only one incident where heat of the moment led to a player from each side being sent off which was out of character. Overall the team and management will be very disappointing with this performance as they played well below par as the players & management put a lot of effort, time & work in, over the course of the past eight months. For the record the team was Declan Molloy, Tommy Farragher, Brian Costello, David Carton, David Coleman, Kieran Flaherty, John Culkin, Padraig O'Donnell, Ronan Cooley, John Blade, Brian O'Donnell, Brian Flaherty, Paul Flaherty, Brian Cooley, Colman Maher. Sub: Ger Ruane, Cathal Coleman, Richie Fox, Darren Collins. Finally we want to thank the management team of Pat Blade, Peter Fanning, Jody Flaherty, Brendan Connolly, trainers Gerry Daly & Tony Keady who all put an enormous amount of time in preparing the team over the past eight months, also Seamus McQualter who looked after the players injuries and Mary Fanning with team medical over the past three months, it was much appreciated.

The Fr O'Brien Cup final was cancelled last Monday in Abbey, game to be refixed, time and date to be confirmed to teams shortly. Many thanks to Brendan Connolly and B.G.N. for their sponsorship in helping to defray some of the costs associated with the Fr. O'Brien Cup and Shield, it is very much appreciated.

Our U-8's & U-10's play Moycullen in a revised match next Sunday in Abbey Pitch at 10.30. This will be one of our finals game and looking forward to a good game

The club extends its sympathies to the Geoghegan, Dolan and Noone families on their recent bereavements.
