Abbeyknockmoy played there final group game against Meelick Eyrecourt last Sunday evening in Loughrea in a must win game to make the qualifying stages of the championship. Abbey playing in to a stiff breeze in the first half found the going difficult in the first fifteen minutes where Eyrecourt raced in to a four point lead mainly through the concession of some relatively easy frees. However, Abbey tightened up in the backs and after some good play by the forwards they fought there way back to within one point five minutes before the break. A well worked goal by Eyrecourt after good pressure appeared to give them the momentum, however Brian Flaherty latched on to Abbeys puck out and hammered home a goal to cancel out their effort. Both Abbey & Eyrecourt traded points to leave the half-time score 1-6 to 1-5 in Eyrecourts favour. On the resumption, Abbey now aided by the breeze levelled the game from a pointed free by Paul Flaherty. Staunch defending by keeper Declan Molloy, the full back line of David carton, Tommy Farragher and Richie Fox together with half backline of Padraig O'Donnell, Brian Costello & David Coleman cut out any threat Eyrecourt posed. With Abbey in the ascendancy with strong hurling from mid-field partnership of Ronan Cooley and John Blade gave Abbey the launch pad with quality ball to the half- forward line of Brian Flaherty, Kieran Flaherty & Brian O'Donnell and full forward line of Paul Flaherty, Brian Cooley, John Culkin and sub Colman Maher who capitalised on scoring a total of ten points to Eyrecourts one to run out winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-7. Overall abbey played with great heart after a slow start on what could be dubbed as a very good team performance and were worthy winners, special mention to Padraig O'Donnell who was excellent through out, Brian Costello and the Flaherty brothers Paul and Brian who were in top form. Abbey are now in the pre-lim quarter finals together with R/Newcastle and Killimor who topped the group. Well done to all concerned. Team was Declan Molloy, Richie Fox, Tommy Farragher, David Carton, David Coleman, Brian Costello, Padraig O'Donnell, John Culkin, Ronan Cooley, John Blade, Brian Cooley (0-02), Brian Flaherty (1-06), Brian O'Donnell (0-01), Kieran Flaherty (0-01), Paul Flaherty (0-5). Sub used Colman Maher for John Culkin.

Minors drew with Killimor this evening 0-10 to 1-07. A great second half performance trailing 1-6 to 0-4 at half time, we held Killimor to a pointed free in the second half. Tony's charges have 5 points from a possible 6 points after their first three games, leaving qualification almost assured from the group stages. We have two group games left against Cappataggle and Liam Mellows. Team on the day was; Dean Carey, Finbarr Conroy, Eanna Roache, Kevin Divilly, Johnny Burke, Paul Flaherty, Tomas Blade, Padraic MacMaighnis, Colm Mannion, Daniel Collins, Sean McCarthy, Craig Kennedy, Eoin Blade, Vinny Lally, Caoilin Blade.
