The Fr O'Brien cup & shield finals came to a close with the shield final played last Monday evening contested by Crumlin & Newtown. Both teams played the previous week which ended in a draw after a highly competitive contest where both teams gave it there all for their respective schools. In the replay match Newtown emerged the victor with a six point margin on a scoreline of 3-9 to 4-0 and we congratulate them on a great achievement. Hard luck to Crumlin who contested both finals, but from previous encounters with the other schools, it was always a toss up who would emerge the victor as over the course of the tournament only one score separated the 3 teams in all games. Thanks to all the team mentors and teachers in preparing their teams over the past month, the players for giving it there all in highly competitive entertaining games, the supporters and parents in adding to the occasion. Thanks to all the referees and umpires who were very fair to all teams. Special thanks to Brendan Connolly, BGN, who made a significant contribution to the sponsorship of the event and to Fr. Joe O'Brien in providing the trophies. Finally thanks to all those who helped out in providing refreshments, it was much appreciated.

Our U-8 and U-10 played Ballygar last weekend with the U-8's recording a win and U-10's losing out to their counterparts. This brings to an end hurling for these groups until next year. We look forward to the Spring and resumption of underage Sunday morning training sessions.

The club extends its sympathies to the Laheen family, Coolourty on the recent death of Francis Laheen and to the Carroll family, Briarfield and Nally family, Ballyglunin on the recent death of Carmel Carroll.
